Sunny skies and a perfect spring day The day starts off on the cool side, with many areas waking up to temperatures in the 40s and low 50s under clear skies and calm winds. It is the kind of crisp spring morning that quickly gives way to a fantastic afternoon. Sunshine dominates through the day a s warmer air begins moving into the Ohio Valley. Afternoon highs climb into the upper 70s for many communities, with a few spots flirting with 80 degrees. Winds stay fairly light, making for one of the nicest weather days of the week. Quick round of showers moves through Wednesday The next weather system arrives late at night into Wednesday morning as a cold front drops southeast through the region. Scattered showers are expected mainly during the early to mid-morning hours, especially across southern Indiana and central Kentucky. Rainfall looks fairly light and quick-moving, and while an isolated rumble of thunder cannot be ruled out, the chance remains very low. By Wednesday afternoon, skies begin clearing again from northwest to southeast. Cooler air filters in behind the front, causing temperatures to slowly fall through the day after reaching the low to mid 70s earlier on. A few isolated showers could linger near eastern Kentucky into the afternoon, but most areas turn dry fairly quickly. Quiet and comfortable weather returns late week Wednesday night turns cool once again, with clearing skies and temperatures dropping back into the 40s. Dry weather settles in for Thursday as high pressure builds overhead. Sunshine returns, and temperatures stay pleasant with highs in the low 70s. Rain chances creep back into the forecast Friday as another weak disturbance approaches. Scattered showers are possible, but the day will not be a washout. Temperatures continue warming, with highs reaching the upper 70s. Weekend turns much warmer with a few rain chances A strong warming trend develops over the weekend as summerlike air pushes into Kentucky. Highs surge into the mid and upper 80s Saturday through Monday, and some areas west of Interstate 65 could approach 90 degrees on Sunday. A few scattered showers may linger around Saturday, but the bigger story will be the heat and humidity returning to the region. Another cold front is expected to arrive Monday, bringing a line of showers and a few thunderstorms. At this point, severe weather does not appear likely, but gusty winds and periods of rain are possible as the front moves through.
