Marcus’ 4 a.m. Tuesday forecast INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Gusty showers and a few thunderstorms are expected tonight before a much warmer pattern settles in for the end of the week. Warmer temperatures with increasing clouds. The day will start off quiet and comfortable, with high pressure centered over the Great Lakes. We should remain mostly sunny during the morning hours before clouds build this afternoon. An approaching cold front will bring high temperatures into the mid and upper 70s later today. Showers and thunderstorms move in overnight. A cold front will move through the region later this evening, bringing showers and thunderstorms with it. While widespread severe weather is not expected, a few storms could produce gusty winds, lightning, and brief heavy downpours. The best chance for any severe storms would be north and west of the Indianapolis metro area. Rain will end early as cooler temperatures move in. Rain will taper off very early Wednesday morning as the cold front pushes east. Skies will begin to clear, and cooler, drier air will slide into the area. Sky conditions will improve significantly by Wednesday afternoon. Look for mainly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 60s. A stronger northwest wind will make it feel a little cooler than that through the day. Warming trend begins ahead of the weekend. After a couple of cooler days through the middle of the week, temperatures will rebound into the 70s starting Friday. We will likely see some scattered showers and thunderstorms as we head into the afternoon and evening hours. Summer-like temperatures will move in for the weekend, with highs reaching the low to mid 80s. Humidity will be on the rise as well, which should lead to some isolated shower and thunderstorm chances as we head into Saturday. Sunday will actually be a little warmer, with highs in the mid and upper 80s. With higher humidity values, we will likely see some scattered showers and thunderstorms develop. Neither day over the weekend looks likely to produce widespread rain, so a lot of dry hours are expected across central Indiana. Warmer pattern holds into early next week. Above-normal temperatures will continue for the first half of next workweek, with temperatures hovering in the mid and potentially upper 80s. Well-organized showers and thunderstorms are not in the forecast, but pop-up showers and thunderstorms will be possible at any given time due to the high heat and humidity. The 8- to 14-day outlook also looks very warm, with much of the eastern half of the country forecast to have above-average temperatures through the end of May. ...read more read less
