A Philadelphia woman has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison for her role in a 2024 armed carjacking. Khala Hardy, 24, of Philadelphia, pleaded guilty last July to conspiracy to commit a carjacking, carjacking, and using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during and in relation t o a crime of violence. The plea was related to a March 2024 incident in Philadelphia. According to court filings, on the night of March 15, 2024, Hardy and co-conspirator Nyeem Williamson, 23 targeted a woman who was dropping off a friend in South Philadelphia. Hardy approached on the driver’s side of the vehicle, opened the driver’s door, pointed a gun at the woman, and directed her to “get out and give me your keys,” court documents said. The woman got out of the Toyota and Hardy took her place behind the wheel. Once Williamson was inside the vehicle, they drove off. Shortly after the carjacking, court documents said Hardy instructed Williamson on how to disable the Toyota’s GPS system and cameras to avoid detection by law enforcement, as documented in their group chat messages. Three days after the carjacking, Williamson was arrested and charged, by the Philadelphia Police Department, according to court documents. Following Williamson’s arrest, Hardy instructed others who had communicated with him to delete their text messages. Court documents said Hardy subsequently provided a voluntary statement to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in which she admitted to her involvement in the gunpoint carjacking. Hardy was sentenced today to 85 months in prison and five years of supervised release by United States District Judge Nitza I. Quiñones Alejandro. Williamson pleaded guilty to this crime back in March and is scheduled to be sentenced in August. ...read more read less
