BUCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Buckingham County's Department of Emergency Services is warning residents of suspected measles activity within the county. On Saturday, May 9, Buckingham stated in a post that the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is investigating 'suspected measles activity' occu rring in the area. Officials stated that as it works to "assess the scope of the illness," residents are asked to be aware of symptoms and stay up to date with vaccinations. Anyone with a higher exposure risk or who is more vulnerable has been alerted by public health officials and has been given guidance and recommendations. Measles is a highly contagious virus and can be spread easily, especially to those who are unvaccinated. Symptoms include the following, according to VDH: Fever Cough Runny nose Red or watery eyes Rash Buckingham stated that local health departments are offering vaccinations.
