Orion Jean, a 15-year-old from Mansfield, will co-host a free book drive on Saturday, May 9, as part of his Race to Kindness organization. It’s a campaign focused on the simple acts of kindness that can change the world. Book Drive for Kids is organizing the book fair portion, with support from Atmos State Fair to purchase new books; Thrift Books is also donating gently used books. Other groups are providing food and entertainment pieces. Jean has told NBC 5 in the past that one of his biggest passions is childhood literacy and providing access to quality books for kids of all socioeconomic backgrounds. His children’s book, Race to Kindness, is also available now. NBC 5 has followed Jean’s story for years. He has organized massive food drives, collected 500,000 books for students in North Texas, and was recently named 2022 Time Magazine’s Kid of the Year. The event will be hosted at local non-profit T.R. Hoover CDC located at 5106 Bexar St, Dallas, TX 75215. It runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. ...read more read less
