Legendary ‘Sinners’ actor to be honored with key to Oakland

(KRON) -- A longtime Oakland resident and legendary Hollywood actor — who was recently seen in Oakland native Ryan Coogler's critically acclaimed, award-wining film "Sinners" — will be honored by the City of Oakland and Mayor Barbara Lee Wednesday.

Delroy Lindo, 73, will be spotlighted at an event titled 'Rooted in Legacy' at Oakland City Hall from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Lindo is expected to be presented a Key to the City of Oakland by Mayor Lee and a proclamation declaring May 6 as “Delroy Lindo Day.”
"This thoughtfully curated experience will center an intimate fireside conversation between Mayor Lee and Mr. Lindo, designed to engage and inspire emerging young leaders through storytelling, reflection, and mentorship," according to a news release from the mayor's office.
The event will also unveil a custom jersey from the Golden State Warriors.
The actor, known for breakout performances in films such as "Malcolm X," "Get Shorty," "Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods" and "Sinners" was born in London and studied at San Francisco State University.
"Sinners" was nominated for a historic 16 nominations at this year's Academy Awards, winning four awards, including Best Original Screenplay for Coogler.
