Portion of Midlothian Turnpike closes due to crash, downed power lines

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A section of eastbound Midlothian Turnpike in Chesterfield County shut down due to a crash and downed power lines Tuesday morning.
According to the Chesterfield County Police Department, all eastbound lanes of Midlothian Turnpike between Research Road and Southlak
e Boulevard is closed after a crash brought down power lines the morning of Tuesday, May 5.
The section is expended to be closed for several hours, "possibly into morning rush hour" due to downed power lines, police said.
Drivers are urged to find alternate routes and avoid the area if possible.
As of 7 a.m., about 60 Dominion Energy customers are without power due to this crash. Nearly three hours ago, Dominion Energy said 225 customers were without power.
Police have reported no serious injuries, but said the single-vehicle crash into a power pole remains under investigation.
The Virginia Department of Transportation has a detour in place, but drivers could use Research Road to Southlake Boulevard back to Midlothian Turnpike or Carmia Way to Koger Center to Midlothian if heading east.
All westbound lanes are now open as of 6:28 a.m., VDOT said in a social post.
