RCHD highlights adolescent health services for National Adolescents Health Month

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond City Health Districts (RCHD) is highlighting services and programs that support the health and well-being of Richmond youth in honor of National Adolescent Health Month.

o learn more how they can support the youth.
Some steps on how to provide support to adolescents are listed in the U.S. Department of Human Services website.
"Through technology and social media, our youth face online predators, cyberbullying, and self-confidence issues," said Richmond and Henrico Health District Adolescent Health Coordinator Cindy Pulido in a press release.
Pulido added that adults must be sensitive to these mental health challenges and give ourselves tools to helps.
"Taking care of our youth means more than meeting their basic needs—it means showing them respect, empathy, and compassion," Pulido said in a release.
Per the release, the RCHD Adolescent Health Team works with Richmond youth from ages 12 to 19 years old. The team helps equip them with information, support and connections that promote healthier outcomes.
They also work with the youth through partnerships with local non-profits, middle and high schools, foster care programs and other organizations.
Some of the health education services RCHD provides covers a wide variety of topics, including substance use disorder, mental health and violence prevention. RCHD also connects the youth to community resources such as Free from Tobacco, Trauma Healing and Response Network and REVIVE! Training for opioid overdose response.
