2 arrested after 70 ATV, dirt bike riders take over Bay Bridge: authorities
May 03, 2026
(KRON) -- Two people were arrested after a mixture of ATV and dirt bike riders took over the Bay Bridge early Sunday evening, according to California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Mark Andrews. The incident caused a traffic jam and lane closures on the bridge.
Approximately 50 to 60 su
spects were riding either an ATV or a dirt bike, Andrews said. They first made their way into San Francisco from Oakland. Once they arrived in San Francisco, Andrews said they spent around 45 minutes to an hour there.
The number of ATV and dirt bike riders was upgraded to 70, according to the Oakland Police Department, the agency that made the arrests.
The riders then made their way back onto the eastbound lanes of the bridge, according to CHP. As they were heading towards Oakland, all eastbound traffic was stopped. The group ditched their bikes.

The suspects tried to run away, but two of them were arrested by Oakland Police Department officers, according to Andrews. Eastbound lanes 3, 4 and 5 were temporarily closed before reopening around 7:15 p.m.
The dirt bikes and ATVs were then confiscated by the authorities (see photo above). The vehicles were taken and put on a Caltrans tow truck.
The San Francisco Police Department, Oakland Police Department and CHP assisted in the response.
