Stabbing at Tacoma High School: A student allegedly stabbed four students and a security guard at Tacoma’s Foss High School on Thursday. The students suffered severe injuries while the alleged attacker and the security guard sustained only minor injuries. All were hospitalized and are now in stab le condition. Body Found: A Marysville resident was bringing in their trash bins after the day’s garbage pick-up when they noticed the yard waste bin wasn’t actually empty. It contained the body of a woman in her early 20s. The police are investigating. There’s a Motherfuckin’ Ex-Staffer on This Motherfuckin’ State Plane: Gov. Bob Ferguson violated an ethics law when he allowed a former policy advisor to travel to the Tri-Cities on a state-owned plane last year. The advisor, Mike Webb, resigned last year after he was accused of creating a hostile work environment. Ferguson accepted a $4,000 fine for violating the ethics law that “bars the use of state resources for the private benefit of a non-state employee.” Under the agreement, he’ll pay half now and won’t have to pay the rest if he doesn’t make another violation in the next two years. UW Student Arrested at Turning Point USA Event: Turning Point USA hosted a “Prove Me Wrong” event on the Hub Lawn at the University of Washington. It featured far-right influencer Nick Freitas. During the event, a counter protester drummed to drown out a speaker. Even when police told him to stop, he continued drumming and was arrested. UW says drumming over others is not protected by the First Amendment. Makes you wonder how much the added scrutiny from the Trump administration on UW influenced this extreme response. Lock ’em Up: New Seattle Public Schools Superintendent Ben Shuldiner is introducing a new phone policy. All students in grades below high school will need to have their phones turned off and stowed away for the entire school day. High schoolers are subject to a “No Cell, Bell to Bell” system. They can’t have phones out in class, but can use them during passing periods and at lunch. No better time to modify the behavior of children than the last two months of school. Data Center Plan Is Dying: Two developers have withdrawn plans to build high-capacity, electric grid-gobbling data centers in Seattle. The Seattle Times reported earlier this month that four companies wanted to build five data centers and had approached Seattle City Light about adding them to the grid. That prompted a wave of public backlash. It also inspired council members Eddie Lin and Debora Juarez and Council President Joy Hollingsworth to draft forthcoming legislation establishing a one-year moratorium against new data centers. That was enough to force two companies to withdraw their plans. Two companies—Equinix and Prologis—are still interested in building three data centers. Time to keep yelling. The Weather: Another exceedingly pleasant sunny day is on deck. Summer-like heat arrives Sunday. I will be pretending it’s mid-July while eating a hot dog at the Mariner’s game that day. See you there? It’s May Day: Thousands of people are expected to celebrate International Worker’s Day at marches across Washington state. Are you joining in? Join us on Friday, May 1, in Seattle for the May Day 2026 March and Rally to take collective action and celebrate the proud history of workers in our region who power Washington state. 🔗seattlemayday.org #WAISN #WA4All #InternationalWorkersDay— Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (@waisn.bsky.social) 2026-04-24T17:48:41.338Z Congressional Approval Shmongressional Shmapproval: Today marks 60 days since the Trump administration started the war in Iran. The War Powers Act of 1973 mandates that any military action that extends beyond 60 days needs Congressional approval. Trump says he doesn’t need Congressional approval for the war in Iran because it’s actually already over. The ceasefire counts as ending the war, Trump says. Pete Hegseth said the ceasefire “pauses or stops” the clock. This isn’t basketball, but if it were, congressional Democrats would be losing. They forced a vote on a war powers resolution for the sixth time and, for the sixth time, it failed. How Much Could a War Cost? The Pentagon reports that the US war in Iran has cost $25 billion so far. Jailbreak Blues: Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson was indicted on 30 felony counts in connection with a jailbreak last May. Systemic issues at the jail enabled 10 inmates to escape, according to Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill. Hutson was charged with “malfeasance in public office, filing or maintaining false records, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy to commit these alleged offenses,” NBC News reports. The sheriff’s chief financial officer was indicted on 20 counts of the same charges. Quit Speed Running the Scientologists: Dozens of teen boys and young men have committed a really funny crime for views. They’ve filmed themselves busting into and “speed running” the Church of Scientology’s international headquarters in Los Angeles. The Church of Scientology is not pleased. “It is trespass, harassment and disruption of religious facilities,” the church wrote in a statement. Maybe they should sic Tom Cruise on these intruders. No Prediction Market Betting for Senators: In a unanimous vote, US Senators banned themselves, their staff, and other chamber officials from placing bets on prediction market sites like Kalshi and Polymarket. There’s been suspicion of insider trading after bettors won thousands for correctly predicting US military actions in Iran and Venezuela. A US special forces master sergeant allegedly placed bets on the January Venezuela raid and capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. He helped plan that raid and won $400,000 in profits from the bet. He was indicted on fraud charges and has pleaded not guilty.  A Long Read for your Friday: Learn about the cut men trying desperately to yank their foreskins back into existence. Their MacGyver methods for skin stretching involve “pill bottles, ball bearings, aquarium pumps, film canisters, trombone mouthpieces, toilet-seat-hinge bolts, baby bottles, binder clips, a pig-castration device, and baby socks.” Live Menos: A Florida Taco Bell worker allegedly shot at customers for filling a water cup with soda, which is against the rules. The worker was booked into jail for being a dedicated employee on three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.
