DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A tractor-trailer driver was hurt after an early morning multi-vehicle crash shut down Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County on Friday.
On Friday, May 1, at 1:25 a.m., Virginia State Police troopers responded to a multi-vehicle crash along I-85 in Dinwiddie North at mile
marker 50, just two miles away from the Route 650 exit.
Police said a preliminary investigation reveals a sedan hit a guardrail and came to a stop in the left lane.
According to state police, in effort to avoid the sedan, a tractor-trailer swerved, overturned and jackknifed.
A charter bus carrying around 30 passengers also tried to avoid the sedan, though the bus sideswipe the driver's side door of the tractor-trailer.
The charter bus sustained minor damage and police said there were no reported injuries to the passengers.
Officials said the driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the sedan was not injured.
"All lanes were closed for an extended period while troopers investigated the crash and crews worked to clear the scene," police said.
Police continue to investigate and charges are pending.
