Blue Cross Blue Shield $2.67B settlement checks start going out. Should you expect one?
May 01, 2026
Nearly six years later, checks from a $2.67 billion settlement fund related to Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance are being sent to affected customers.
Initial distributions started in May for the millions who filed claims in the antitrust class-action lawsuit against Blue Cross Blue Shield,
alleging the health insurance company limited competition at higher cost to consumers.
There are two classes of settlements, including a Damages Class and an Injunctive Class. The initial check rollout is for those in the Damages class.
Those who could receive payments include individuals who received coverage under any Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance or administrative services plan between February 2008 and October 2020.
Blue Cross has denied the allegations, despite the settlement.
Under the terms, it also agrees to implement operational changes that the plaintiffs believe make the health insurance market more competitive.
The settlement was reached in October 2020. A judge gave his final approval of the settlement last summer. It stemmed from a class action antitrust lawsuit filed in Alabama under the title “Blue Cross Blue Shield Antitrust Litigation MDL 2406, N.D. Ala. Master File No. 2:13-cv-20000-RDP.”

Under the terms of the settlement, approximately $1.9 billion is being allocated to reimbursements for subscribers who filed claims. The remaining $700 million goes to the attorneys for the case.
