OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) -- Alameda County voters had the chance to hear from the three candidates running for District Attorney Wednesday evening. Current DA Ursula Jones Dickson, recalled DA hoping to reclaim her job, Pamela Price, and Gopal Krishan, all participated in a forum hosted by Berkeleysi de and Oaklandside. The candidates answered questions from moderators and community members. Topics included if they felt the DA’s office is moving in the right direction, sentence enhancements, and how they would create a more just system in Alameda County. Rose Pratt-Nervis was there early, eager to learn about each of the candidates and how they plan to address the issues. "With politics going the way they are we first must fight at home in our own grounds before we start going anywhere else,” said Pratt-Nervis. Photo: KRON4 News. Ursula Jones Dickson is the current DA. She was appointed by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors in January 2025. She says her goal is to continue prioritizing victims. "The reason I left the bench to do this job is because I think victim's rights are important and I felt that we lost sight of that over the last several years,” said Jones Dickson. “As a result of that, I'm building an office that absolutely focuses in on victim's rights.” Many community members were meeting candidate Gopal Krishan for the first time. Krishan is an immigrant from India who says he's wants to protect everyone but highlighted other immigrants and marginalized communities. "I'm going to be tough on organized crime,” Krishan stated. “I'm going to be tough on ICE. There will be no ICE in Alameda County, and I will make sure that no hate crime goes unpunished." Pamela Price was overwhelmingly ousted as DA in 2024 but decided to run again in 2026. She says she still has the same goals. "I still believe in the core values that brought me to the District Attorney’s office, in fairness, in a system that treats everyone equally and a clear commitment to public safety,” said Price. When questioned about it, Price did address the recall campaign against her. "They mislead voters,” said Price about the people who led the recall effort. “They told voters I was responsible for all the crime in Oakland." She went on to say she does support victims and always has, but some of the crowd still pushed back on her approach "My truck stolen and the guy who stole it murdered someone a year later and she didn't charge the case,” yelled a man in the crowd. Organizers asked the crowd to cutdown on distractions and to stop interrupting. Anyone who couldn’t do that was asked to leave. The candidates answered questions for about 90 minutes. The primary election is June 2nd, the two top vote getters move on to the November election, unless someone gets an outright majority of than 50% of the vote. Then there is no runoff. ...read more read less
