A security guard at the Macy’s at Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto is accused of using the store’s security cameras to spy on preteen girls and possessing child sex abuse material. Bernardo Garcia, 20, allegedly used Macy’s security cameras to try to see the underwear of young girls wa lking through the store. Prosecutors claim Garcia used a hidden security camera to look under or through the clothing of at least two young girls. Investigators said it happened back on July 4 and 5, 2025. Sources confirmed Garcia is no longer working at the Macy’s. NBC Bay Area reached out to Macy’s to try to obtain more details on how long Garcia worked at the location, but the company didn’t provide an answer. In a statement, Macy’s said, “the safety of our customers is always our top priority, and we take matters of this nature extremely seriously.” Palo Alto police said the investigation began after they received a tip that Garcia may be in possession of child pornography. That led authorities to Garcia’s Menlo Park home, where they confiscated storage drives and cell phones they claim contained at least 600 illegal images involving children. Garcia is set to return to court in June for a plea hearing. ...read more read less
