(KRON) -- A 41-year-old Monterey woman is facing multiple fraud charges after Morgan Hill police believe she scammed senior victims out of thousands of dollars.

Morgan Hill police said an elderly resident reached out to report she
had been targeted in a Federal Trade Commission scam to steal $17,000 from her.
"The male suspect on the phone had arranged for a female courier to come directly to her home to collect the money," said police in a social media post Wednesday.
Morgan Hill police said they moved fast to protect the victim, including setting up an operation to monitor the immediate area. Police said they soon spotted a vehicle nearby that was repeatedly circling. After she was pulled over, the driver, identified as Chunhong Yang, was taken into custody for driving on a suspended license.
"During a search incident to arrest, officers located over $16K dollars in cash in the suspect’s vehicle," added police. "Our property crimes detective advised she was investigating a prior scam where $17,000 was stolen. The victim and witness in that case were able to positively identify Yang as the suspect who scammed them."
Yang was taken to county jail, according to police.
The Morgan Hill Police Department is using the incident to remind community members how they can avoid falling prey to potential scammers:
Scammers often create urgency and pressure you to act quickly
They impersonate government entities
They request cash, gift cards, or in-person pickups
It’s okay to pause, verify, and your local police for help
Police said so far this year Morgan Hill residents have been scammed out of more than $749,000.
