Marcus’ 4 a.m. Wednesday forecast INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Central Indiana starts the day with soggy conditions as another round of showers and storms moves through the area. A cooler, more fall-like pattern settles in for the rest of this week. Showers and storms this morning A weak sys tem moving through to our south is bringing numerous showers and a few thunderstorms to the state. The heaviest rain will be focused across southern Indiana south of I-70, with lighter showers extending into central and northern portions of the state. Minor flooding will be an issue, especially across the southern third of the state, where some areas have already picked up 3 to 5 inches of rain. Severe weather is not expected this morning, but a few heavy downpours could lead to ponding on the roads. Cooler, breezy conditions this afternoon Rain will taper off from west to east by early afternoon. Behind the rain, temperatures will turn cool under partly to mostly cloudy skies. A few spotty sprinkles can’t be ruled out, and wind gusts will pick up at times, ranging from 20 to 25 mph. Quiet weather late in the week High pressure builds in for Thursday and much of Friday, bringing a break from significant rain. Skies will be mostly clear to partly cloudy on Thursday with highs around 60°. There is a small chance of a spotty shower on Friday, but most areas will stay quiet, with highs only reaching the upper 50s. Frost potential this weekend A much cooler air mass settles in for the weekend, with temperatures running well below normal for early May. Overnight lows will dip into the mid and upper 30s, allowing for patchy frost both Saturday and Sunday mornings. The most likely areas to see frost will be rural and outlying locations, as well as spots well protected from any light breeze. Gradual warm-up next week Temperatures will slowly rebound early next week, returning closer to seasonal averages. Highs will return to the mid 60s on Sunday and push near 70° for Monday and Tuesday. Rain chances return Monday into Tuesday, with the potential for thunderstorms as well. ...read more read less
