Marcus’ 4 a.m. Tuesday forecast INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — After strong storms moved through Indiana Monday night, quieter conditions return for now. A cooler and cloudier day is expected across the state. The cold front is slowly moving through the region today, bringing a noticeable cool- down compared to the recent warmth we’ve experienced over the past week. The front will have a tough time clearing the state entirely, so there will be quite a spread in high temperatures from north to south. Here in Central Indiana, look for high temperatures to reach the mid and upper 60s this afternoon. Showers and storms return tonight. Another system will develop to the south and move toward the state late today through tonight, bringing widespread showers and possibly a few thunderstorms. Severe storms are not expected, but several heavy downpours will be possible. Flooding will remain a concern. Even though we don’t have many rain chances in the extended forecast, flooding will continue to be an issue since many areas picked up several inches of rainfall Monday. In fact, radar estimates exceed 6 inches in southern portions of the state, so any additional rainfall we receive tonight through Wednesday morning will only aggravate flooding issues. A cooler pattern settles in. A bigger shift arrives midweek as a cooler weather pattern takes hold across much of the eastern half of the country. High temperatures will struggle to reach the low 60s by the end of the week, and overnight lows will fall into the 40s — and potentially the 30s — for the second half of this week. Frost possible this weekend. Skies will clear and winds will calm heading into the weekend, which should allow temperatures to drop a little further during the overnight hours. While widespread frost is not likely, with overnight lows falling to the mid- and upper 30s, we could see patchy frost in low-lying and wide-open areas both Friday morning and Saturday morning. We should see temperatures moderate quite a bit once we get through the weekend. In fact, highs should reach the mid-60s on Sunday and push close to 70, with a chance of showers returning Monday of next week. ...read more read less
