Attorney general requests review of overturned Sierra LaMar murder conviction

A notorious South Bay murder case may get a second look after the conviction was tossed out earlier this year.
The California Attorney General’s Office is now asking the state Supreme Court for a review of a judge’s decision earlier this year to overturn a conviction in the 2012 disappearance
of Sierra LaMar.
The 15-year-old vanished on her way to school in Morgan Hill and her body was never found.
In June 2017, Antolin Garcia-Torres was sentenced to life for her murder.

Sierra LaMar's Family Remains Hopeful 10 Years After Morgan Hill Teen Vanished
A judge in February overturned the conviction, party because the Santa Clara County district attorney had used three unrelated kidnapping cases to help convict Garcia-Torres.
The California Supreme Court could reinstate the conviction if it decides to review the case. It could take up to three months before the court makes a decision.
Garcia-Torres has remained in prison.
