Residents of a town in Chester County, Pennsylvania, are being warned to take precautions after a black bear was spotted roaming around someone’s yard. The West Vincent Township Police Department in Chester County shared surveillance video of a black bear wandering through a resident’s backy ard. Police said while black bears are generally not aggressive, there are extra precautions that can help keep both residents and the “furry traveler safe”: • Bring in or temporarily remove bird feeders • Keep pet food indoors • Secure garbage cans and place them at the road the morning of pickup, not the night before • Clean grills and outdoor cooking areas • Keep a close eye on pets, especially during dawn and dusk • Give the bear plenty of space if spotted “This bear is likely just passing through in search of snacks and a shortcut. Let’s not make your backyard the local buffet,” police wrote. If you see a bear, have video footage, or have even witnessed behavior that could be cause for concern, you are urged to contact 911 immediately and notify the Pennsylvania Game Commission. ...read more read less
