Despite the security scare in Washington Saturday night that forced Secret Service agents to evacuate President Trump and top members of his administration, King Charles and Queen Camilla are going ahead with their U.S. tour this week. One that includes meeting with President Trump and visiting New
York City later in the week.
“‘Following discussions on both sides of the Atlantic through the day, and acting on advice of Government, we can confirm the State Visit by Their Majesties will proceed as planned,” a Buckingham Palace statement Sunday read. “The King and Queen are most grateful to all those who have worked at pace to ensure this remains the case and are looking forward to the Visit getting underway tomorrow.”
The visit starts Monday, with a trip to Washington, D.C. The royal couple will also have tea time with First Lady Melania Trump and attend a garden party later in the day.
The royal couple heads to New York two days later for events recognizing the economic and cultural ties between the United States and the United Kingdom. They’ll head to the 9/11 Memorial ahead of the upcoming 25th year milestone of the terror attacks, and meet with first responders and victims’ families.
Charles is also expected to meet New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, according to Politico. However, the two are not expected to visit privately.
