Dozens of Mountain View homes without tap water after water main shut off
Apr 26, 2026
(BCN) -- About 67 homes in the Cuesta Park neighborhood in Mountain View remained without tap water on Saturday following an issue with a water main on Friday.
"The incident involved a City of Mountain View contractor working on a water main replacement and upgrades project," said City of Mountain
View communications officer Lenka Wright. "There was a contamination breach with some cement slurry mix getting into a water main, which required the water supply in the affected area to be shut off."
As of Sunday, April 26, two-thirds of the total affected homes have had water restored for toilet-flushing only.
City officials urged residents in the affected neighborhood not to use their tap water for any reason, including drinking, cooking, hand washing, or bathing, until further notice.
Safety testing will be completed on Monday to assess the water's potability, according to a statement from the city. There was no estimate for when the main would be fixed, but the city's statement said it was coordinating with the state Water Resources Control Board to get it fixed as soon as possible.
The city is offering free hotel stays to impacted residents. Two cases of bottled water are being distributed to each household, according to the city of Mountain View.
Showers are available at Rengstorff Park Aquatics Center Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and at the Mountain View Public Library on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Impacted residents can also use showers at Eagle Park Pool, at 650 Franklin St., on Saturday and Sunday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. For direct assistance, contact the city at (650) 903-6081 or email [email protected].
