The National Weather Service confirms at least one tornado, an EF-2, touched down in North Texas Saturday night, as deadly and devastating spring storms swept through Wise and Parker counties, killing at least two and displacing dozens of families.
Survey crews from the National Weather Service e
valuated damage Sunday morning near Runaway Bay in Wise County and confirmed an EF-2 with peak winds of 135 mph touched down Saturday night. The NWS said the intensity was recorded at two separate structures. Other tracks and damage locations are still being assessed, including in Springtown in Parker County, where another death has been confirmed, and incredible damage has been seen to homes and structures. NWS crews may also evaluate sporadic damage reported across Jack County.
Parker County ESD #1 Assistant Fire Chief David Pruitt confirmed early Sunday that one person had been killed in Parker County in an area south of Springtown. In nearby Wise County, County Judge J.D. Clark confirmed a person had been killed and six others were treated by Wise County EMS for injuries.
“Our hearts go out to that family during this incredibly difficult time,” Clark said.
An EF-2 tornado touched down in Runaway Bay, Texas, on Saturday, April 25, 2026. At least one person was killed.
Clark said he plans to issue a disaster declaration after at least 20 families in the Runaway Bay area were forced out of their homes due to storm damage. Video from Texas Sky Ranger recorded Sunday morning showed a field of debris covered by splintered wood, collapsed roofs and downed walls. A similar scene was seen in nearby Springtown, where homes were leveled, and vehicles were overturned.
“This storm caused significant damage across multiple neighborhoods, and our community is feeling the weight of that this morning,” Clark said.
Clark said EMS first responders worked throughout the night to provide medical care, clear debris and reach damaged buildings and that they were assisted by multiple law enforcement agencies and fire departments from across the area, as well as utility partners, the American Red Cross and the Texas Division of Emergency Management.

“Access has been difficult due to blocked roadways and downed utilities, but crews have continued pushing forward to reach those in need,” Clark said. “We are grateful for the support of Texas Task Force 2, who responded to assist with organized search and rescue operations. Their expertise has been invaluable as we work to ensure every impacted area is thoroughly cleared.”
Residents with damage to their homes or businesses are asked to complete the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT). These self‑reported surveys help local and state officials understand the extent of damage and connect impacted Texans with available recovery resources. iSTAT surveys are available in English and Spanish at damage.tdem.texas.gov.
“Many residents have reached out asking how they can help. Your willingness to serve is deeply appreciated,” Clark said. “At this time, volunteer assistance is not needed, and unmet needs are still being assessed. Should opportunities for volunteers or donations become appropriate, the County will share that information widely through official social media channels and local media to ensure all efforts are safe, coordinated, and effective.”
Updates are expected to continue throughout the day.
