A suspect being pursued by police in San Francisco earlier this month climbed over the edge of the Bay Bridge and dangled precariously from underneath the lower deck before being taken into custody, police said Thursday.
The caught-on-camera pursuit and standoff with the suspect, who was wanted f
or stealing the vehicle involved in the chase, happened on April 1, according to police.
Police said they first received a report of a stolen vehicle from South San Francisco traveling in the area of Eighth and Market streets in San Francisco.
Police confirmed the vehicle was stolen and located it via a drone, the department said.
Responding officers tried to pull the suspect over, but the suspect refused to stop. Officers also deployed spike strips, but the suspect continued to flee on city streets and eventually onto Interstate 80 and the Bay Bridge.

The suspect spent some time hiding in a support beam before climbing back up and into the hands of authorities.
The suspect was taken into custody with incident, police said.
