(WRIC) -- A Louisa County man who previously raped a child was found guilty of sexually exploiting two more c hildren in recent years. On Wednesday, April 22, 57-year-old Richard Scott Tyson of the Gum Spring area of Louisa was found guilty of four child sex crimes: both making and possessing child sex abuse material (CSAM), the attempted coercion and enticement of a minor and the commission of a felony offense involving a minor while a registered sex offender, according to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). Tyson has a history of sexually abusing children. Per the DOJ, he was previously convicted of raping a child in 2002. He was sentenced to 99 years in prison, with 86 suspended -- meaning his sentence effectively amounted to 13 years. These newest offenses reportedly took place between 2021 and 2023. To protect the children's privacy, they will be referred to as "Child 1" and "Child 2." According to officials, Tyson met Child 1 in 2021, when he "developed a relationship with [the child] and his family members." He took Child 1 on trips and spent money on him, buying him both clothes and video games, as well as paying for activities. During this time, Child 1 began staying at Tyson's home overnight and on weekends. At some point, Tyson took Child 1 to a trampoline park, where Tyson met Child 2. He began communicating with both children via Snapchat. Tyson then started taking both victims to hotels, resorts and amusement parks. "During these activities and trips, as well as at Tyson’s home, Tyson engaged in sexual relations with [Child 2] and took pictures of both minor victims while they were nude or mostly undressed and posed in sexualized positions in exchange for money," the DOJ said. Tyson will be sentenced for these crimes on July 29. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 35 years in prison. He could potentially be given a life sentence. The FBI's Richmond Field Office, as well as the Powhatan County Sheriff's Office, investigated this case. They were aided by the Goochland County Sheriff's Office. ...read more read less
