INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The National Bank of Indianapolis Summer Nights Film Series returns to Newfields this summer, celebrating its 50th anniversary with a lineup of more than 50 films. The outdoor series began under former Indianapolis Museum of Art Director Robert Yassin, who led the inst itution from 1963 to 1991. To mark the anniversary, this year’s lineup includes a screening of the Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers classic “Top Hat,” one of the first movies ever shown as part of the event. “Since joining the Summer Nights Film Series team in 1999—from selling popcorn and tickets to selecting the films—I have seen firsthand the ways in which this beloved tradition brings people together,” Lindsay Hamman, director of public programming at Newfields, said in a release. Tickets go on sale to members at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 30, and to the public at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 5. Tickets are $10 for members and $13 for guests, and advance purchase is required. Guests can bring their own blankets, snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks, or buy concessions on site, including popcorn, light snacks, and alcoholic beverages, available until 30 minutes before the movie begins. Reserved seating is available at most showings, with outdoor chair rentals for $10 and reserved blanket spots for $25. Staff will set up reserved seating in advance.
