Law enforcement officials have released surveillance video in the hopes of finding an armed gunman who pistol-whipped a victim — inadvertently firing off one round — at a store in Philly’s Strawberry Mansion neighborhood last weekend. On Thursday morning, police shared the video on social m edia. As detailed by police, the incident seen on the video happened at about 2:17 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at a grocery store located along the 2900 block of Ridge Avenue. At that time, police said, the man — described as being about 35 to 40 years old, standing between five-foot-eight-inches and five-foot-ten-inches tall, with a medium build — walked into the shop and immediately approached a man in the store and struck him with a silver handgun three times. During the attack, police said, the handgun incidentally fired one round into the ceiling of the store. After the assault, which was caught on camera, both men argued until the gunman exited the store and hopped into the passenger seat of a silver Ford Crown Victoria and fled the scene, officials said. Police are asking anyone who may have information on this incident or can identify the man seen in the footage to contact the Philadelphia Police Department’s Central Detective Division at 215-686-3093/3094 or by contacting the department’s tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
