Oregon Ag Fest
Saturday, April 25 – Sunday, April 26: The Oregon Ag Fest is returning to the state fairgrounds this weekend, bringing goats, llamas, chickens and other farm animals with it. The annual festival spotlights Oregon’s agricultural trade through hands-on education, demonstration and entertainment. All-day activities will include mini tractor racing in the Jackman Long building, a petting zoo in the Livestock Pavilion, and hatching chicks, seedling planting and potato digging in Columbia Hall. The Livestock Pavilion will have sheep shearing every half hour, dog herding and fiber arts demonstrations. There will also be live music, dancing and food. A full schedule can be found here. Tickets are $15 for ages 16 and up. Children 15 and under get in for free. The fairgrounds are at 2330 17th St. N.E.
International Dance Day at Saturday Market
*Saturday, April 25: The Ceili of the Valley Society will bring Irish and Scottish dance to the Salem Saturday Market for International Dance Day. The nonprofit group promotes Irish and Celtic culture through regular dance classes, and annual walkabouts and new year’s festivals. Dancers will have a short demonstration at 10 a.m., then open up the floor to passersby shortly after. All ages can join the dance. The market is on the corner of Northeast Marion Street and Summer Street.
Luau at Willamette University
Saturday, April 25: The Willamette University Hawaii Club is hosting its 36th annual luau with Hawaiian music, hula and mele. “Through hula and mele, we will share the breathtaking beauty of our ‘āina and the deep love we have for it,” the event posting said. The luau will run from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Guests can purchase a dinner ticket or buy Hawaiian snacks from the Country Store. Tickets are $30 for adults, $20 for university staff, $18 for students, $10 for ages 6 -12 and free for children 5 and under. The event will be between 439 12th St. S.E. and 499 12th St. S.E.
Enchanted Night Market
*Saturday, April 25: The Grand Theatre ballroom will transform into an Enchanted Night Market, filled with vendors, whimsical costumes, workshops and live performers. Performances will include live music, drag and a sword demonstration. The evening, put on by The Outer Realms, will also have sword fighting, stamp carving and polymer clay jewelry workshops. Each workshop is $18 per person. The market runs from 3 – 9 p.m. Entry is free. The theatre is at 187 High St. N.E.
McNary Celebration of Music concert
Wednesday, April 29: The McNary High School music programs will perform for the public for the annual Celebration of Music concert at the Elsinore Theatre. The concert will feature the school’s Highlander Classics choir, chamber orchestra, wind ensemble and symphony orchestra. The grand finale will bring all of the performers to the stage for a collaborative piece. The concert starts at 7 p.m. and doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and free for children ages 12 and under. The theatre is at 170 High St. S.E.
