All lanes reopened following a fiery crash involving a Tesla on northbound Interstate 280 in Daly City, according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP said all four lanes north of Hickey Boulevard have reopened after being closed while emergency crews monitored the scene and a tow truck work ed to remove the vehicle. The crash was reported around 6:40 a.m. on northbound I-280 just north of Hickey Boulevard. Authorities said a Tesla Model Y overturned and caught fire, prompting the closure of all northbound lanes and the Hickey onramp due to heavy smoke and flames. For a brief time, southbound lanes were also shut down as crews responded. The driver, described as an adult man, was able to get out of the vehicle on his own and suffered minor injuries. He was taken to a hospital as a precaution. Traffic was further impacted when a Waymo autonomous vehicle became stuck in the backup and had to be assisted off the freeway by CHP officers. Authorities said officers worked with Waymo to access the vehicle and move it out of traffic. It was not immediately clear whether anyone was inside. The CHP said this is not the first time a Waymo vehicle has required assistance at a crash scene. Bay City News contributed to this report ...read more read less
