INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Warm temperatures and breezy conditions will fill the state today, followed by scattered rain and storm chances heading into Wednesday.
Gusty winds and warm temperatures today.
We’re stuck between an area of high pressure to our s
outh and east and an area of low pressure to our north and west. This setup will make for a gusty day today, with wind gusts possibly peaking at up to 40 mph this afternoon.
The good news is that the winds out of the south and west will pump much warmer air into the region, with high temperatures topping out in the mid-70s.
Rain and storms possible overnight.
The system will slide in from the north, bringing chances for isolated showers and thunderstorms overnight. Coverage looks spotty rather than widespread. No severe weather is expected, but a few noisy thunderstorms will be possible during the overnight hours.
Rain chances Wednesday.
A weak frontal system will still linger over the state Wednesday, keeping us mainly cloudy with spotty showers and a few rumbles of thunder throughout the day.
Meanwhile, temperatures will remain mild, topping out in the mid-70s by afternoon.
More rain late week into the weekend.
The storm system moving out of the Plains will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to the region Friday. As of now, the better severe weather chances look to stay to our west, but a few gusty thunderstorms will likely roll through along the front Friday afternoon and night.
There is a chance for some lingering rain showers during the first half of Saturday, though coverage won’t be as widespread as last weekend.
Sunday should be a dry day with very pleasant temperatures, with highs reaching the low 70s in the afternoon.
We will maintain above-average temperatures well into next week, but there are stronger signals for cooler conditions to move in after a potent front passes next Monday.
The 8- to 14-day outlook is calling for below-average temperatures, which would take us into the first few days of May.
