Dallas Stars in vulnerable, but not unfamiliar spot going into Game 2 Monday
Apr 20, 2026
The Dallas Stars find themselves in a vulnerable but not unfamiliar spot after a tough 6-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday.
On Monday, Minnesota has the chance to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven playoff series, which they haven’t done in the last 15 postseasons.
The opportunity i
s significant for Minnesota, which has lost nine consecutive playoff series.
A shot by Minnesota Wild center Joel Eriksson Ek (14) enters the net of Dallas Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger, center, for a goal during the first period in Game 1 of a first-round NHL Stanley Cup playoffs hockey series, Saturday, April 18, 2026, in Dallas, Texas.
“We won a game, we didn’t win a series,” Minnesota Wild coach John Hynes told The Associated Press on Sunday.
Hynes went on to say they aren’t satisfied with winning one game.
In recent years, the Dallas Stars have had trouble out of the gate in the playoffs — Dallas has lost Game 1 for the ninth time in 11 playoff seasons. In recent history, though, they recover. Last year, the Stars lost Game 1 to the Avs and went on to win the series in seven. In 2024, they lost Game 1 to the Golden Knights before winning the series in seven games. In 2023, they lost Game 1 to the Wild and advanced in six. Each of those years, the Stars advanced to the Conference Finals.
If Dallas can secure a win on Monday, the series will be tied 1-1. Face-off is at 8:30 p.m.
