RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A 21-year-old Henrico County man is dead after police said he drowned in the James River in Richmond Saturday evening. The man was identified by police as 21-year-old Pramanik Rukunuzzaman of Henrico County. At 5:11 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, officers with the Richmond Pol ice Department were called to assist units from the Richmond Fire Department Water Rescue Team in the 500 block of Tredegar Street for the report of a person submerged in the river. The Richmond Police Department's Swift Water Rescue team found the man, since identified as Rukunuzzaman, in the river and took him to the north bank to attempt life-saving measures. Police said he was taken to a local hospital, where he died due to his injuries on Saturday. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death, though officials said he died in an apparent drowning. Officials continue to investigate the incident as an accidental drowning.
