SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- One of San Francisco's most popular tourist destinations was closed Monday and due to remain so for most of the week. Alcatraz Island, the former federal prison turned national park, will be closed for several days while its boat dock undergoes repairs. According to the Nati onal Park Service, the island will be closed through Friday but should reopen in time for the weekend. All scheduled tours during the closure have been refunded, the NPS said. Baby sea lion found on SF streets was severely malnourished This week's closure apparently has nothing to do with a proposed plan from President Donald Trump to turn the island back into a prison. President Trump recently included $152 million in a budget proposal for turning Alcatraz back into a prison, a plan that San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie called "not a serious proposal."
