CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A four-month-old infant who was in an improperly secured car seat fell out of a moving car on a Chesterfield road on Thursday morning, after which police said the driver was issued three traffic summonses. Just before 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, officers with t he Chesterfield County Police Department were called to the intersection of Willis Road and Route 1 in response to a report of a child falling out of a vehicle. Police said the caller reported that he was heading south on Route 1 when he saw an infant car seat sliding across the road's lanes. According to officials, the caller said a man got out of a Nissan Versa, picked up the infant car seat and put it back in the car. The suspect then reportedly continued driving. Officers then reportedly found the suspect's car and pulled the driver over. When officers approached the car, they saw three children -- a four-month-old, a one-year-old, and a four-year-old -- in car seats that were not properly strapped in, officials said. Police said that at this point, the investigation indicates that as the driver was turning onto Route 1, one of the car's rear doors fell open, and an infant seat, in which the four-month-old was sitting, fell out of the car. Officials said the driver of the car was issued three traffic summonses for improperly securing the children's car seats. The infant who fell out of the car was taken to a local hospital to be checked out, and had no visible signs of trauma at the scene, according to police. Officials continue to investigate. ...read more read less
