New auditor announced for RPS amid potential budget cuts

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Richmond City School Board voted this week to approve the hiring of a new auditor for Richmond Public Schools (RPS).
Board members voted in a Tuesday, April 14, meeting to hire Ziauddin Ahmed as the new director of internal audit. He will officially begin his role on Mon
day, April 20.
According to the school district's announcement, Ahmed "brings with him a strong background in assurance, compliance, risk management, and governance, supported by more than 20 years of experience in developing and leading internal audit, advisory, and compliance functions for Fortune 100 companies and national nonprofits."

This announcement comes after parents, RPS employees and community members packed City Hall on March 23 to ask city leaders to increase funding for the school district -- with advocates also asking for an audit as the proposed budget may put important programs at risk.
