MINT HILL, N.C. – A Venezuelan gang member is now in ICE custody after police say he admitted to recklessly handling a gun at his birthday party. Neighbors heard the shots from the backyard of Luis Marcano Marcano’s home on Stornoway Court in Mint Hill early Sunday morning. “We heard music playing til like, 2 or 3 in the morning and a couple, like two pops…two loud pops,” a neighbor said. Marcano later admitted to shooting the ground during an argument with his pregnant wife. When he sat the gun down, she tried to grab it and shot herself in the stomach. Marcano drove her to the hospital. The unborn baby died. Police say Marcano admitted to throwing the gun in the woods. “It was a baby involved. So I feel no remorse for him. You know what I mean? You shouldn’t be putting your wife in that type of situation,” a neighbor said. Neighbors say the Marcano’s moved into the home on Stornoway Court less than two months ago and police have been called out for noise multiple times. “They’re playing music to two and three in the morning. It’s like club speakers. They just kind of came here and the energy has just been off since they got here,” a neighbor said. Marcano was charged with disarming a gun in the city. He was held in Mecklenburg County Detention Center until ICE agents picked him up Thursday morning. He will likely face deportation. “Just keep your head on a swivel and do the right thing. I would not go to another country committing crimes,” a neighbor said. We asked ICE when Marcano would see a judge and the process for deportation, but we haven’t heard back. Federal authorities say Marcano is a part of the Venezuelan Street Gang TDA. At last check, Marcano’s wife was still in the hospital recovering. ...read more read less
