SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A planned closure for eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 in San Francisco could create a potential traffic nightmare for drivers in and around the city this weekend. The closure will see eastbound I-80 fully closed between 17th and 4th streets beginning Friday at 11 p.m. lastin g through Monday at 6 a.m. Caltrans is advising drivers to avoid this section of roadway and use public transportation. eBay San Francisco office to be shut down, employees reportedly being relocated "Throughout the weekend, motorists will not be able to drive along this stretch of freeway and are urged to use public transportation and possible," said Caltrans. Southbound and northbound Highway 101 Bayshore Freeway connector ramps will also be closed during the same timeframe. During the weekend closure, drivers heading east on I-80 in the city's last exit will be at Vermont Street. Drivers who miss Vermont will be directed to take the 9th Street offramp and redirected through Bryant Street to re-enter the freeway at 5th Street. If possible, public transportation is advised. Map: Caltrans Drivers who do attempt to navigate the impacted areas are advised to expect heavy delays and allow for extra travel time. The closures, according to Caltrans, are to address critical maintenance requirements for the 71-year-old Central and Bayshore freeway viaducts which carry thousands of vehicles daily.
