Park’s a big part of community
Apr 15, 2026
I’m writing the letter in response to a previous letter dated April 1-3 termed “Doubting the details,” which to me was a scathing complaint about the Utah Olympic Park and its finances.
The letter went on for nearly half a page dressing down the park and possible request for financial
assistance for some expansion. At least 50 people signed off on the letter, but the letter was obviously written by one person. I have been here for over 50 years and don’t recognize any of them.
The letter just went on and on to where it really made no sense to me. It had no constructive or positive directive toward the park.
The park has been there for some 25 years and was a venue for the 2002 Olympics. It is supported by the Olympic Legacy Fund. It has a wonderful museum. It supports training programs for athletes both local and nationwide. It’s added additional ski programs and two chair lifts that serve local kids ski programs and the University ski programs.
It has summer programs and corporate programs, all of which bring in income and recognition.
My grandkids participate in a wonderful winter ski programs that is coached by parents and former Olympic athletes. The park just hosted a last-minute NCAA alpine ski championships after Bridger Bowl in Montana didn’t have enough snow.
The park is an expensive proposition to maintain, but it’s such an icon for our community. It deserves our support. Lets not let rightwing narrative and vitriol get in the way as we move toward 2034 Olympics.
