Marcus’ 4 a.m. Tuesday forecast INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — We remain locked in a summer-like weather pattern with near-record warmth and daily chances for showers and thunderstorms for much of this week. Near-record heat today Temperatures will once again surge into the 80s this afternoon, continuing a stretch of well above-average warmth. High temperatures will top out in the low to mid 80s. The record high for today is 85°, set back in 1883. Storm chances return this afternoon and evening. Attention will turn to scattered thunderstorms developing later in the day. The main focus area will be across central and north-central portions of the state late this afternoon into the evening hours. Any storms that develop could be strong to severe, with damaging winds and large hail as the primary threats. Isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out. The northern third of the state is under a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather, while much of central Indiana is in a Level 1 out of 5 risk. More storm chances midweek. There will be very little pattern change through Wednesday and Thursday. An area of low pressure will slide in from the west and maintain southwest flow and moisture across our area, allowing additional rounds of scattered showers and thunderstorms. On Wednesday, there is a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather, with all modes of severe weather possible. More widespread showers and storms are likely from Wednesday night into Thursday as a more robust system approaches. Brief break Friday Friday looks to be the driest day of the week, with only a few isolated showers or thunderstorms possible. High temperatures will again push records, topping out in the low to mid 80s by afternoon. Another storm system Saturday. A strong cold front will move through the Midwest to kick off the weekend. This should bring additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms, with the potential for a few strong to severe storms. Right now, the timing leans more toward the second half of Saturday. Following Saturday’s cold front, we will turn sharply colder to wrap up the weekend. High temperatures will only reach the upper 50s on Sunday. Some areas of frost will be possible Sunday night into Monday as lows fall into the mid to upper 30s. ...read more read less
