A male pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Monday in the busy area of South Van Ness and Mission Street, which led to a large police response and the disruption of vehicle and transit traffic.Mission Local reports from the scene that the victim was possibly unhoused, and the owner of the P icacho food truck that parks nearby said he believed that the victim was one of two men who hung around in the area and often bought horchata from him.The driver of a F-250 or F-350 pickup truck reportedly cooperated with police at the scene.The collision happened around 3:30 pm or just before.A white tent was set up over the body as an investigation took place, and the street was closed to traffic.A news helicopter was flying overhead and the SF Department of Emergency Management put out an alert at 3:38 pm to avoid the area of Mission Street and South Van Ness Avenue due to police activity, but no further explanation was providedThe SFMTA subsequently posted to X that that the 14, 14R, and 49 buses were all blocked from travel between 13th Street and South Van Ness.This is a developing story. ...read more read less
