The family of Matthew Kane, one of the two workers who were missing — and later found dead — after a parking garage collapsed in Grays Ferry, is remembering their loved one as a good person and a good father. Brian Forstater, Kane’s cousin, said that he has fond memories with the longtime u nion worker. “He loved his job. Loved his people,” Forstater said. “He was a good father. Good person and we’re gonna miss him.” Forstater watched with loved ones as the last wall of the parking garage was demolished on Sunday. Crews worked over the weekend to recover the body of Kane, as well as Mark Scott, Jr., the other worker presumed dead. A third worker, who has not been identified, was also killed in the collapse that occurred on Wednesday, April 8, but their body did not become trapped under the rubble. Forstater said that Kane was a father of two who will be missed dearly. “His mom, she’s shaken up. It’s rough for her,” he said. “But she’s a strong lady, and she’s the coolest aunt a kid could ever have.” At a press conference on Sunday evening, Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Jeffrey Thompson said that with the structure demolished, crews will be working 24/7 to delayer the concrete and recover the two missing bodies. “We are going to work continuously until we can bring those lost souls home to their loved ones,” he said.
