Eric Swalwell suspends campaign for governor amid allegations
Apr 12, 2026
(KRON) -- Bay Area Congressional representative and candidate for governor, Eric Swalwell, has suspended his campaign, he announced Sunday evening in a social media post.
"I am suspending my campaign for Governor. To my family, staff, friends, and supporters, I am deeply sorry for mistakes in judg
ment I’ve made in my past," Rep. Eric Swalwell wrote in an X post. "I will fight the serious, false allegations that have been made — but that’s my fight, not a campaign’s."
Swalwell's decision to suspend his bid for California governor comes after allegations against the East Bay congressman surfaced last week. The 45-year-old politician was accused of sexual assault by a former staffer; the woman reportedly claims she was too intoxicated to consent.
