Phillies rookie right-hander Andrew Painter was scratched from his scheduled start against Arizona on Sunday afternoon due to a migraine, the team announced 35 minutes before first pitch. In Painter’s absence, reliever Zach Pop got the starting assignment and pitched two innings of one-run ba ll in a 4-3 loss. Painter, who has a history of migraines, felt better as game time approached. He ended up entering the game in the third inning and pitching five innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts. “Great outing,” manager Rob Thomson said. “Eighty pitches. He attacked. His curveball and slider were really good. Very impressive.” Painter said he woke up to pressure in his head and was sick to his stomach Sunday morning. He said he felt fine when he took the mound. “If he was weak or nauseous, he would not have pitched,” Thomson said.
