Man arrested for possessing child sexual abuse material
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department on Thursday was warning of the dangers of using vigilante justice.
It comes after they arrested a man for possession of child sexual abuse material.
They say it start
ed when they responded to the home of Dillon Kruger, 32.
Police say a man posing as a young girl had been communicating with Kruger and alerted police to possible illegal material.
Police say because the information was gathered outside proper legal procedures, IMPD detectives had to launch a separate investigation.
They say Kruger agreed to speak with investigators, allowing them to search his phone. That’s when officers found the illegal material.
Police say he mircaulously did not destroy all the evidence after the initial call.
They urge anyone to report concerns directly to the authorities rather than taking matters into your own hands.
Sgt. Nicolle Flynn, supervisor of IMPD’s unit for internet crimes against children (ICAC), told News 8, “We definitely don’t recommend that anyone go out and try to conduct their own ICAC investigation. It can actually inhabit us from ever catching the people that are looking at these images or potentially producing these images which means they are actually finding children to harm.”
This story was created from a script aired on WISH-TV.
