The Dallas Mavericks say they will submit their interest in redeveloping the Dallas City Hall site in the next few days. It comes as Dallas opened a website for submissions this week, calling for potential ideas. On Thursday, Mavs CEO Rick Welts appeared at a North Dallas Chamber of Commerce e vent, covering a wide range of team topics, including the two sites Welts said the team is exploring in Dallas for a new arena: the former Valley View Mall location in North Dallas and a potential downtown location. The Dallas City Council voted 9-6 last month, after a 16-hour marathon session, to give city manager Kimberly Tolbert the option to explore alternatives for the city hall site. A development Welts said late March opened the opportunity to talk with the city about a possible downtown arena. An effort aided this week by the city launching an online submission portal for ideas on how to redevelop the city hall site and city-owned acreage around it. While the city council isn’t expected to vote on whether to move, relocate, or refurbish city hall until perhaps June, the deadline for public submissions stays open until May 3. Welts confirmed Thursday the Mavs won’t wait that long to weigh in. “There’s a call for anyone interested in redevelopment to submit their interest, which we will be doing in the next few days,” Welts said. “We are on the clock, and whether or not that’s going to come to fruition is really where we can get with the city between now and July.” ...read more read less
