The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 2:48 p.m. on Wednesday for elevated fire danger until Thursday at 4 a.m. for Chemung, Tompkins, Madison, Oneida, Cortland, Chenango, Otsego, Tioga, Broome, Delaware and Sullivan counties."The combination of dry fine fuels, southerly wind gusts o f to 20 to 30 mph, and relative humidity values as low as 20 to 35% will contribute to an elevated risk for fire spread on Thursday for portions of Central New York.
