Man arrested in fatal stabbing of woman in Philadelphia rooming house

A man was arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a woman who was found inside a Philadelphia rooming house on Sunday afternoon, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.
Police said James Street Jr., 43, was arrested on April 7, and charged with the murder of Tyhesia Street, 46.
According to officials, the murder was domestic in nature.

At approximately 1:28 p.m. on April 5, 2026, officers arrived at a home on the 5500 block of West Girard Avenue to conduct a wellness check. According to police, a family member said Tyhesia Street had not been seen for several weeks.
When officers went inside the home, they found Tyhesia Street unresponsive and with multiple stab wounds to her torso. About 12 minutes later, she was declared dead, according to police.
After processing the scene and conducting their investigation, police identified James Street Jr. as the murder suspect and was taken into custody.
James Street Jr. has been charged with murder and possessing an instrument of crime.
The case remains under review by the Homicide Unit.
