CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A man is dead and a Chesterfield County officer is on leave following a Tuesday morning call about a neighborhood disturbance. At 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, officers with the Chesterfield County Police Department were called to the 4000 block of Frye Terrace n ear the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights line for the report of a disturbance. The caller reported that a man was on their property, holding what police described as a "long gun" and yelling. At one point, officials said the man approached the caller's front door. While officers were on their way to the scene, the caller reported that the suspect had returned to his own home. When officers arrived, they went to the suspect's home and began checking the area for him. The officers reportedly identified themselves and saw the man, armed with a rifle, in the doorway of his home. (Photo: Ben Walls, 8News) One officer fired at least one shot at the suspect, who then retreated into his home. Officers then established a perimeter around the home and additional police resources responded. Police said officers used a drone to clear the home and saw the suspect lying unresponsive on the floor. Officers then entered the home and determined that the man was dead. No officers were injured during the incident, according to police. The officer who fired the suspect will be placed on administrative leave, as per the department's policy. Police said there is no indication that the suspect fired his weapon. Police continue to investigate the incident and are asking anyone in the neighborhood with surveillance cameras to send in footage. This is a developing story.
