On Tuesday, at 11 a.m., officials gathered at the Walnuttown Fire Company’s headqua rters in Fleetwood to discuss the crash that killed Fire Chief Jeffory L. Buck and Assistant Fire Chief Robert R. Shick, Jr. L to R: Assistant Fire Chief Rob Shick, Fire Chief Jeff Buck “These heroes not only served the community for many years, but they were also fathers, husbands, mentors and friends,” Fleetwood Police Department Chief Dale Ulshafer said. “Their unwavering commitment to the community they served never went unnoticed and they will never be forgotten.”  Officials have said the pair were killed when an all-terrain vehicle they were riding in while searching for a missing person was struck by a Toyota Camry driven by a man who, according to court documents, had smoked weed and had a “crack pipe” in his vehicle at the time the crash occurred. And, he said, police were still working to determine if the car was stolen, as Sepulveda Rivera was not the owner of the vehicle. “We don’t know if he had permission. We are still looking for [the vehicle’s owner],” Adams said. What officials were certain of, the district attorney said, was that Sepulveda Rivera shouldn’t have been behind the wheel. “We are not certain why he drove onto the shoulder, other than he was under the influence of, most likely, controlled substances,” Adams said. “He should not have been in control of this vehicle.”  Adams said officials are still awaiting a toxicology report and a full report of the deadly crash as an investigation into this incident remains ongoing. “This is a shocking loss to this community,” Adams said. A funeral for the firefighters is scheduled to be held on Saturday. Also, police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash on Saturday to step forward.
