Specifics on the remaining cuts will be included in Mayor Lurie's budget proposal which is due to be released at the end of May or beginning of June. The budget will require approval from the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.
Mayor Lurie has said he wants to trim the city's annual spending by $400 million. About $100 million of that will come from job cuts. The remainder will come from cuts to contracts, grants and other programs.

Mayor Lurie issued the following statement regarding Monday's job cuts:
“As long as I’ve been mayor, our administration has worked to make government serve San Franciscans more effectively and support our economic recovery, now and for years to come. Facing a budget deficit that will rise to $1 billion, alongside significant cuts in federal and state funding, we have a choice: take action now or be forced to do twice as much in the coming years. The steps we’re taking today are a painful but necessary continuation of the work we’ve been doing since last year to manage taxpayer dollars responsibly and deliver the best possible services for San Franciscans. That work will continue as we prepare a responsible budget that sets up our city for a broad and durable economic recovery.”
