Woman stole $2.5 million in medical supplies from Camden hospital, DA says
Apr 06, 2026
An employee of a Camden hospital was charged after stealing around $2.5 million in medical supplies and then selling it to buyers in South Carolina, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said on Monday.
According to prosecutors, Marci Staub, 44, of Galloway, New Jersey, used her position as a s
urgical technician at Cooper University Hospital to steal medical devices and supplies and then sell them for a profit.
The investigation into the scheme began on Oct. 2025 after the hospital noticed a “large quantity of Medtronic Infuse bone graft devices and other medica supplies were missing from the supply room,” prosecutors said.
The hospital also noticed that the number of orders for certain medical supplies had increased significantly from Dec. 2024 to July 2025, but the hospital was not using more supplies than they had been before the increase in orders. Furthermore, some of the newly ordered supplies was unaccounted for, prosecutors said.
Staub was detained by law enforcement as she attempted to leave work with medical supplies in Dec. 2025, prosecutors said.
The investigation went on to find that Staub was showing up to work with an empty bag and then leaving with a bag full of stolen medical devices and supplies. She would then impersonate a representative of a medical device vendor to sell the stolen items to a wholesale medical supplies company in South Carolina, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said they found that Staub had received $427,000 in payments from the South Carolina wholesaler and had stolen around $2.5 million worth of devices and supplies from the hospital.
Staub faces 2nd degree theft, 2nd degree receiving stolen property and 2nd degree impersonation of a representative of a medical organization, prosecutors said.
